Thursday's After-Hours Movers: Red Hat, AAR And Some S&P 500 ETNs

Shares of Red Hat Inc RHT were trading up more than 5 percent in Thursday’s after-hours session, after the company announced its third quarter results. The mid-cap software provider delivered earnings of $0.48 per share on revenue of $523.58 million, beating expectations.

AAR Corp. AIR was up about 0.5 percent since the bell rang. The small-cap aviation and defense products and services provider retrieved second quarter earnings of $0.30 per share, in line with the Street's consensus estimate, on revenue of $423.8 million, well above experts’ expectations, which called for sales of $396.35 million.

Despite having beat expectations, the results implied a decline from the earnings of $0.38 per share on revenue of $490 million reported in the same quarter last year.

Other big gainers were the ETNs that replicate the returns of the S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures index, which rose 6.05 percent during the regular trading session. Shares of the Credit Suisse AG - VelocityShares VIX Short Term ETN VIIX were up over 3.4 percent in after-hours trading, while shares of Credit Suisse AG - VelocityShares Daily 2x VIX Short Term ETN TVIX gained almost 7 percent after the market closed.

On the other hand, the Credit Suisse AG - VelocityShares Daily Inverse VIX Short Term ETN XIV, which seeks to replicate the inverse of the daily performance of the S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures index, was down 3.66 percent.
