Nordstrom, El Pollo LoCo, King Digital Lead Thursday's After-Hours

Shares of Nordstrom, Inc. JWN are up more than 5 percent in after-hours trading on Thursday, after falling 0.78 percent during the day. The surge follows the announcement of the company’s second quarter financial results, which came in above the Street’s consensus.

The retailer reported earnings of $0.93 per share on revenue of $3.701 billion, above the Street and the crowd’s estimate of $0.91 per share in earnings and $3.652 billion in revenue.

Also moving on its earnings report is Applied Materials, Inc. AMAT, which fell 1.45 percent during the day, and continued to tumble, almost 1.2 percent, since the bell rang.

Although earnings came in in-line with consensus of $0.33 per share, revenue of $2.49 billion fell short of the Street’s expectations, which called for sales of $2.538 billion.

Another stock falling after an earnings report is Aspen Technology, Inc. AZPN, down almost 4 percent in after-hours. Strangely, the company beat the Street’s expectations in both the earnings and revenue fronts.

Earnings came in at $0.39 per share, versus consensus of $0.34 per share, and revenue came in at $114.19 million, compared to the Street’s estimate of $112.12 million.

King Digital Entertainment PLC KING is another big loser in the afternoon. The stock is down more than 8 percent in after-hours, after dropping 2.75 percent during the regular trading session.

The mobile gaming company reported EPS of $0.49, above consensus of $0.42, but missed revenue estimates, which called for sales of $525.75 million, delivering actual sales of $489.53 million.

Yahoo! Inc. YHOO, which surged 4.18 percent during the day, on the back of a false rumor about Paul Singer having started a new position, continued to rise in after-hours. It is currently up roughly 0.52 percent, to $36.12.

Back to companies that reported earnings in the afternoon, there’s El Pollo LoCo Holdings Inc LOCO, one of the biggest losers of the evening. After beating earnings estimates but missing revenue projections, the stock is down almost 12.5 percent in after-hours.
