American Eagle Outfitters Meeets Q3 Views; Outlook Disappoints

American Eagle Outfitters AEO posted third-quarter earnings Thursday in line with its prediction of last month, while its fourth-quarter outlook was slightly below expectations. The Pittsburgh, Pa. based apparel retailer fell nearly 1 percent in the extended session recently, trading at $13.70 a share. American Eagle forecast fourth-quarter earnings of $0.30 cents to $0.33 cents a share, along with "a slight decline in revenue" from last year's $1.04 billion, and "a mid single-digit decline" in same-store sales. Wall Street expects fourth-quarter earnings of $0.35 cents a share, on sales of $1.03 billion. In the recent third quarter, same-store sales declined 5 percent, in line with the company's November announcement. The company's net profit declined to $9.04 million or $0.05 cents a share, compared with year-earlier net income of $24.9 million or $0.13 cents a share. Adjusted income grew to $0.22 cents a share, from $0.19 cents a share in the year-earlier period. Sales were nearly unchanged at $854 million, compared with $857 million a year earlier. Wall Street expected earnings of $0.22 cents a share on revenue of $845.95 million.
