Dish Network DISH posted a profit in the second quarter.
The Englewood, Colorado-based company posted a quarterly profit of $213.3 million, or $0.46 per share, versus a year-ago loss of $11.1 million, or $0.02 per share.
Its revenue climbed 5.7% to $3.69 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.51 per share on revenue of $3.69 billion.
The company's subscriber-related revenue rose 5.6% y/y to $3.65 billion from $3.45 billion.
During the quarter, Dish lost 44,000 net pay-TV subscribers, compared to a loss of around 78,000 in the year-ago period. Dish ended the quarter with 14.053 million pay-TV subscribers, versus 14.014 million pay-TV subscribers at the end of second quarter 2013.
During the quarter, Dish added around 36,000 net broadband subscribers, compared to an addition of 61,000 in the year-ago period.
Pay-TV ARPU rose to $84.15, versus pay-TV ARPU of $80.81 in the year-ago quaretr.
Dish shares rose 2% to $63.39 in pre-market trading.
