swung to a profit in the fourth quarter. CNA Financial posted a quarterly profit of $221 million, or $0.82 per share, versus a year-ago loss of $9 million, or $0.03 per share. The company declared a quarterly dividend of $0.25 per share and a special dividend of $1.00 per share. CNA Financial also announced its plans to sell 100% of the common stock of Continental Assurance Company to a subsidiary of Wilton Re Holdings. CNA Financial shares closed at $39.67 on Friday.
