UPDATE: Ciena Posts Downbeat FQ4 Profit

posted a narrower fiscal fourth-quarter loss. Ciena's revenue rose 25% to $583.4 million, while gross margin shrank to 39.7% from 42.4%. Ciena posted a quarterly loss of $9.8 million, or $0.09 per share, from a year-ago loss of $38.8 million, or $0.39 per share. Excluding certain items, Ciena earned $0.16 per share, versus analysts' estimates of $0.24 per share. For the current quarter, Ciena projects revenue of $515 million to $545 million, versus analysts' estimates of $538 million. Ciena shares fell 10.48% to $20.50 in pre-market trading.
