UPDATE: Manulife Posts Upbeat Q3 Profit

reported an upbeat third-quarter profit. Manulife posted a quarterly net income of C$1.03 billion ($989.01 million), or 54 Canadian cents per share, versus a year-ago loss of C$211 million, or 13 Canadian cents per share. Excluding special items, its core profit came in at 36 Canadian cents per share, versus analysts' estimates of 35 Canadian cents per share. Manulife's wealth sales climbed 34% to C$11.3 billion, while insurance sales gained 4%. Manulife shares closed at $17.95 yesterday.
