KeyCorp (NYSE: KEY) reported an 8.5% rise in its third-quarter profit.

KeyCorp's quarterly profit surged to $229 million, or $0.25 per share, from $211 million, or $0.22 per share, in the year-ago period.

Its revenue fell 4.8% to $1.04 billion. However, analysts were projecting earnings of $0.22 per share on revenue of $1.02 billion.

KeyCorp shares closed at $11.86 yesterday.
