J.B. Hunt Transport Services (NASDAQ: JBHT) reported a 14% rise in its third-quarter earnings.

J.B. Hunt's quarterly profit surged to $78.2 million, or $0.65 per share, from $68.7 million, or $0.57 per share, in the year-ago period.

Its operating revenue increased 11% to $1.3 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.66 per share on revenue of $1.28 billion.

J.B. Hunt's operating margin rose to 10.3% from 10.1%, while trucking segment's revenue declined 8.2%.

J.B. Hunt shares gained 5.68% to $57.90 in after-hours trading.
