Walmart Mass Shooting: About 10 Dead After Assailant Opens Fire At Virginia Store

About 10 people died after an assailant opened fire late on Tuesday at a Walmart store in Sam's Circle, Virginia, the authorities said.

What Happened: In a brief news conference, Leo Kosinski, a spokesman with the Police Department, said that police received reports of a shooting at 10 pm and reached the spot to find multiple fatalities.

Although the officials did not provide an exact number of those killed and wounded at the Chesapeake store, Kosinski said "no more" than 10 people died.

Walmart said on Twitter early on Wednesday that it was working closely with law enforcement and "focused on supporting our associates."

"We're praying for those impacted, the community and our associates," the retail company said, adding that it was "shocked" at the news of a "tragic" shooting.

Virginia local senators expressed their condolences and dismay over the shooting.

"I am absolutely heartbroken that America's latest mass shooting took place in a Walmart in my district in Chesapeake, Virginia, tonight," tweeted Virginia Sen. L. Louise Lucas.

"I will not rest until we find the solutions to end this gun violence epidemic in our country that has taken so many lives," she added.

The latest shooting comes days after another mass shooting in Virginia, in which three University football players were killed and two students were injured.
