Nintendo Continues Nostalgia Gaming Trend With Super NES Release

Nintendo Co., Ltd (ADR) NTDOY created a ton of buzz last year when it announced the return of the beloved classic NES console in a miniature version, inspiring nostalgia among video game fans everywhere.

The NES release was a very limited release — getting ahold of one of the consuls proved difficult and resulted in waves in the resell market.

Nostalgia gaming appears to be the current trend recently, and Nintendo has announced it is following up on the NES Classic mini with one of its most loved consoles: the Super Nintendo.

Similar to the miniature NES, the new Super Nintendo is also a mini version of the '90s console, with 21 games built in, including a never-before-released "Starfox 2."

The "new" Super NES will be available on September 29 and will retail for $79.99.

Shares of Nintendo have gained an impressive 61 percent year to date following the success of its latest Switch console.

Nintendo has often battled supply issues, however. As it battles with smartphone makers for available parts, facing shortages of the heavily in-demand console, it says it plans to ramp up production of Switch in July and August.

Expect the Super NES to be a limited release that could see a lot of demand on the resale market as well. If Nintendo continues this momentum, next year, we may see a mini N64. "Mario Kart" anyone?
