  • Alkermes Plc ALKS surged 28.8 percent to $56.04. The volume of Alkermes shares traded was 1818 percent higher than normal. Alkermes announced positive topline results from its late-stage clinical study of ALKS 5461 for the treatment of depression.
  • Everyday Health Inc EVDY shares moved up 11.4 percent to $10.48. The volume of Everyday Health traded was 1549 percent higher than normal. J2 Global Inc JCOM’s Ziff Davis reported a deal to buy Everday Health for $10.50 per share in cash.
  • Reynolds American, Inc. RAI shares gained 16.6 percent to $54.98. The volume of Reynolds American shares traded was 1182 percent higher than normal. British American Tobacco PLC (ADR) BTI made a $47 billion takeover offer for the roughly 58 percent of Reynolds American that it doesn’t already own — a move that would cement the two cigarette giants’ longstanding trans-Atlantic ties and create the world’s largest listed tobacco company by revenue and market value. BAT owns 42.2 percent of Reynolds, and is offering cash and BAT stock worth $56.50 a share for the rest of the company.
  • Microsoft Corporation MSFT shares rose 4.4 percent to $59.74. The volume of Microsoft shares traded was 332 percent higher than normal. Microsoft reported stronger-than-expected results for its first quarter on Thursday.
