Worst Performing Industries For October 4, 2016


The Dow rose 0.19 percent to 18,288.67, while the NASDAQ composite index gained 0.28 percent to 5,315.93. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index gained 0.09 percent to 2,163.09.

The worst performing industries in the market today are:

  • Silver: This industry slipped 4.4 percent by 11:00 am. The worst stock within the industry was Fortuna Silver Mines Inc FSM, which fell 10.2 percent. Silver futures dropped 3.5 percent to trade at $18.20 an ounce.
  • Gold: This industry declined 2.5 percent by 11:00 am with Gold Resource Corporation GORO moving down 16.5 percent. Gold futures fell 2.2 percent to $1,284.20 an ounce.
  • Shipping: This industry fell 1.7 percent by 11:00 am ET. Costamare Inc CMRE shares dropped 19.2 percent in today's trading. Costamere reported new financing arrangements and decreased its cash dividend from $0.29 per share to $0.10 per share.
  • Office Supplies: The industry dropped 1.2 percent by 11:00 am. The worst performer in this industry was Spire Inc SR, which declined 2 percent.
