Jay Z & The Weinstein Co. Ink 2-Year TV & Film Production Deal

Jay Z took his business empire one step further this week, signing a deal for a movie and TV content with The Weinstein Co. According to the studio, several projects are already being developed and will be announced in coming weeks.

This two-year contract grants The Weinstein Co. first-look options with the rapper to produce both TV and film projects.

"I'm excited to tell stories from real-life prophets who, through their struggles, have changed the world for the better and others whose stories are filled with fantasy and delight,” the Jay Z said in a statement.

Talking about The Weinstein Co.’s Harvey Weinstein and David Glasser, the Jay Z added, “[They] are visionaries, both of whom have done this time and time again. I'm already passionate about what we currently have in the pipeline, and I'm looking forward to discovering others."

In the past, Jay Z produced Will Gluck's "Annie" remake, co-produced Chris Rock's "Top Five," and executive-produced Baz Luhrmann's "The Great Gatsby." The Weinstein Co., for its part, was responsible, among several other titles, for:

  • "Django Unchained," co-released with Sony Corp (ADR) SNE’s Columbia Pictures.
  • "The King's Speech"
  • "Silver Linings Playbook"
  • "Inglourious Basterds," released in conjunction with Comcast Corporation CMCSA’s Universal Pictures.
