CME Group's August Average Daily Volume Falls 15%

CME Group Inc CME disclosed that its average daily volume (ADV) reached 13.8 million contracts a day, representing a drop of 15 percent on a year-over-year basis. However, on a year-to-date basis, ADV through August averaged 15.5 million contracts per day, indicating 9 percent uptick from the previous year period.

CME Group said that total open interest grew 15 percent to 105 million contracts at the end of August.

While metals volume witnessed 9 percent year-over-yeargrowth in average contracts to 414,000 in August, Gold futures ADV advanced 17 percent to 194,000 contracts in August. Similarly, silver future contracts ADV grew 17 percent in August.

The company's energy volume rose 6 percent to average 2.2 million contracts a day whereas natural gas products ADV jumped 36 percent in August. It claimed record volume of WTI options, as well as, natural gas options that jumped 43 percent.

The stock closed Thursday's regular trading at $108.70.
