Airbus Group (AIRBUS GROUP SE UNSPON ADR EA REPR 0.25 ORD) EADSY has just announced it is on track to break an all-time delivery record for the month of August. The French plane manufacturer told Reuters that it has delivered more aircraft for August than in the same period in any previous year.
Airbus CEO Fabrice Bregier did not provide total delivery figures, but said Airbus hit a crucial target of six A350 deliveries for August. The company also announced this week that it delivered its first A320 Neo to Chilean airliner LATAM Airlines Group SA (ADR) LFL.
The A320 Neo could be attractive to smaller carriers such as Hawaiian Holdings, Inc. HA and Alaska Air Group, Inc. ALK, with its long range and smaller aircraft features that could open up new routes and destinations (American Samoa) once not profitable.
The company's previous record for August was 47 deliveries, made in 2013. Airbus target for fiscal year 2016 is 650 deliveries, which represents a 2.4 percent increase year-over-year.
Problems with supply equipment from the A350's cabin had Airbus deliver just 15 of the model through July, well short of the full-year target of 50. The company is still behind its target to deliver, but a solid August helps Airbus get closer to its mark set at the beginning of the year.
