Report: New iPad Pro Coming In 2017, 'Revolutionary' OLED iPad To Follow In 2018

Apple Inc.AAPL
is preparing a new lineup of iPads for release in 2017 and 2018, according to a report by Mac Rumors.

Mac Rumors, citing notable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, suggested that Apple will release three new iPad devices in 2017, ranging in size from 9.7 inches to 12.9 inches.

According to the analyst, the new devices could consist of a new 10.5-inch iPad Pro model, a 12.09-inch iPad Pro 2 and a more budget friendly 9.7-inch iPad.

Kuo also expects the iPad Pro to boast the A10X processor and Taiwan Semiconductor Mfg. Co. Ltd. (ADR) TSM will serve as Apple's only supplier using 10nm process technology. Taiwan Semiconductor will also exclusively supply the technology to power the A9X processor, which will be part of the 9.7-inch model.

The report likely contributed to Taiwan Semiconductor's stock hitting a new 52-week high of $29.45 on Monday.

Beyond 2017

Looking past 2017, Mac Rumors added that Kuo is predicting further "revolutionary" changes to the iPad, but no sooner than 2018.

The "radical" changes will include a new form factor design and user behavior and an AMOLED panel.

"If Apple can truly tap the potential of a flexible AMOLED panel, we believe the new iPad model will offer new selling points through radical form factor design and user behavior changes, which could benefit shipments," Mac Rumor quoted Kuo as saying.

Shares of Apple were trading higher by 1.09 percent at $109.36 early Monday afternoon.
