Worst Performing Industries For August 12, 2016


The Dow fell 0.13 percent to 18,589.07, while the NASDAQ composite index declined 0.12 percent to 5,222.19. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index slipped 0.10 percent to 2,183.60.

The worst performing industries in the market today are:

  • Appliances: This industry slipped 0.9 percent by 11:00 am. The worst stock within the industry was Whirlpool Corporation WHR, which fell 0.9 percent. Whirlpool shares have surged 8.29 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has gained 4.78 percent in the same period.
  • Home Improvement Stores: This industry declined 0.8 percent by 11:00 am with Tile Shop Hldgs, Inc. TTS moving down 0.8 percent. Tile Shop shares have climbed 25.28 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has gained 4.78 percent in the same period.
  • Investment Brokerage - Regional: This industry fell 0.75 percent by 11:00 am ET. Stifel Financial Corp SF shares dropped 1.4 percent in today's trading. Stifel Financial shares have dropped 29.79 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has gained 4.78 percent in the same period.
  • Small Tools & Accessories: The industry dropped 0.7 percent by 11:00 am. The worst performer in this industry was P & F Industries, Inc. PFIN, which declined 3.5 percent. P&F Industries reported a Q2 loss of $1.49 per share, versus a year-ago profit of $0.35 per share.
