Worst Performing Industries For August 11, 2016


The Dow rose 0.51 percent to 18,590.58, while the NASDAQ composite index climbed 0.33 percent to 5,221.64. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index gained 0.38 percent to 2,183.81.

The worst performing industries in the market today are:

  • Sporting Goods: This industry slipped 4.9 percent by 11:00 am. The worst stock within the industry was Vista Outdoor Inc VSTO, which fell 16.9 percent. Vista Outdoor reported weaker-than-expected quarterly results.
  • Building Materials Wholesale: This industry declined 1.9 percent by 11:00 am with Huttig Building Products Inc HBP moving down 3 percent. Huttig Building Products shares have surged 92.65 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has gained 4.39 percent in the same period.
  • REIT - Residential: This industry fell 0.8 percent by 11:00 am ET. American Campus Communities, Inc. ACC shares dropped 2.3 percent in today's trading. American Campus Communities shares have climbed 41.07 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has gained 4.39 percent in the same period.
  • Semiconductor - Integrated Circuits: The industry dropped 0.7 percent by 11:00 am. The worst performer in this industry was Superconductor Technologies, Inc. SCON, which declined 7.4 percent. Superconductor Tech reported a Q2 loss of $1.14 per share on revenue of $11,000.
