What Are Google's Founders Doing In Singapore?

Alphabet Inc's GOOG founders, Sergey Brin and Larry Page, were spotted visiting Singapore. The two aren't exactly hiding in the country and dodging media, rather their visit isn't exactly as public.

Recode cited Today Online, a Singapore-based publication, in reporting the executives visit to the country. A representative for Google confirmed with Recode that Brin and Page are indeed in Singapore but declined to say why.

Recode' Mark Bergen said his "sheer guess" as to what the executives are up to has to do with the fact that Singapore is big on applying technology and private funds to transit related initiatives. This also happens to be a "particular obsession" of Page.

"The founders spend some of their time on Google affairs but largely devote their days to incubating the nascent other parts of the Alphabet — although the exact details of their itineraries are very hard to determine," Bergen wrote.

Recode added that Brin and Page were spotted chatting with Ceasar Sengupta, head of Google's "next billion user" unit which also doubles as Google's Singapore-based hub.

Today Online also reported that the executives met with Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam. The two also visited the Port of Singapore which may reaffirm Recode's theory as to the reason behind the visit.
