Worst Performing Industries For August 1, 2016


The Dow rose 0.08 percent to 18,447.00, while the NASDAQ composite index rose 0.61 percent to 5,193.68. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index gained 0.14 percent to 2,176.58.

The worst performing industries in the market today are:

  • Foreign Utilities: This industry slipped 1.6 percent by 11:00 am. The worst stock within the industry was CPFL Energia S.A. (ADR) CPL, which fell 1.2 percent. CPFL Energia shares have surged 28.94 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has gained 3.60 percent in the same period.
  • Long Distance Carriers: This industry declined 1.4 percent by 11:00 am with General Communication, Inc. GNCMA moving down 1.8 percent. General Communication is expected to issue its Q2 earnings on August 2, 2016.
  • Foreign Money Center Banks: This industry fell 1.1 percent by 11:00 am ET. Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC RBS shares dropped 1.9 percent in today's trading. Royal Bank of Scotland shares have dropped 51.38 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has gained 3.60 percent in the same period.
  • Residential Construction: The industry dropped 1 percent by 11:00 am. The worst performer in this industry was New Home Company Inc NWHM, which declined 1.4 percent. On Friday, New Home posted a Q2 profit of $0.12 per share on revenue of $108.9 million.
