Amazon Plans To Launch Seventh Fulfillment Center In Texas

Amazon.com, Inc. AMZN revealed Friday that it intends to launch its seventh fulfillment center in Houston, Texas. According to the online retailer, it employs over 10,000 full-time hourly associates at its five operating Texas fulfillment centers currently. The company added that it planned to add 1,000 more full-time positions at the new Houston site. Amazon said that elsewhere in the Lone Star State, it operates fulfillment centers in Coppell, Haslet, Dallas, Fort Worth, and Schertz currently. The company indicated an upcoming facility in San Marcos, which was under construction. The online retailer's VP of North American Operations, Akash Chauhan, said, "With Houston's legacy as a pioneer in innovation and exploration, we are proud to become a member of the community with the announcement of a new fulfillment center in the region. We are excited to create more than 1,000 full-time jobs and to become a member of the business community." Amazon said that its employees at the 855,000-square-foot Houston fulfillment center would carry on the work of pick, pack and ship smaller customer items, like books, electronics and toys. The stock edged up by 0.32 percent on Friday.
