Twitter Reveals Application Process For Verified Accounts

Twitter Inc TWTR revealed that it created an online app process for its accounts to get verified status. According to the company, verified accounts enable users to identify key individuals, as well as organizations on Twitter as authentic, and are denoted by a blue badge icon.

Twitter said an account might be verified if it is determined to be of public interest. The company added that this included accounts maintained by public figures and organizations in music, TV, film, fashion, government, politics, religion, journalism, media, sports, business and other key interest areas.

The social media firm's VP of User Services, Tina Bhatnagar, commented, "We want to make it even easier for people to find creators and influencers on Twitter so it makes sense for us to let people apply for verification. We hope opening up this application process results in more people finding great, high-quality accounts to follow, and for these creators and influencers to connect with a broader audience."

Shares of the company traded 1.39 percent down on Tuesday.
