AT&T, IBM Align To Bring Improved IoT Capabilities To Developers On IBM Cloud

AT&T Inc. T and International Business Machines Corp. IBM disclosed that they have aligned to together to help enterprises speed up their Internet of Things (IoT) initiatives. According to the two firms, they would integrate their unique strengths in cognitive computing and international connectivity to establish open standards-based tools on the IBM Cloud. The objective is to allow developers to build and implement a wide variety of IoT solutions more quickly.

IBM and AT&T indicated they are expanding their complete commitment, as well as investment in open-source based tools, like Node-Red, and open standards such as MQTT. The companies felt these were essential for creating IoT solutions. Aside from that, developers could add the power of IBM's Watson cognitive computing now and AT&T's IoT Platforms such as Flow Designer and M2X. That would enable access to its global network.

The companies indicated their combination of open standards and unique technologies would result in a fresh level of IoT possibilities, as well as solutions for developers to leverage well into the future.

IBM Watson IoT, Commerce & Education GM, Harriet Green, commented, "We have heard the call from developers and businesses for more tools to make IoT a reality and together with AT&T, we are bringing together powerful platforms and services to drive collaborative innovation. This collaboration enables individual developers to tap the power of cognitive computing and combine it with massive amounts of data streaming from billions of connected devices, sensors and systems to create solutions that can help transform businesses and society alike."

The companies said as demand for IoT solutions was growing, the demand for skilled IoT developers were also growing. Based on the VisionMobile 2016 Internet of Things Megatrends report, close to 10 million developers would be active in IoT by the end of the current decade, doubling the current estimated 5 million. The two firms said that it has become a necessity to invest on developers to be competitive as businesses discover the need to more efficient.
