Cohu Launches Next Generation 32-Position Turret Handler

Cohu, Inc. COHU revealed Tuesday the launch of its next generation 32-position turret platform for test, as well as inspection of high performance mixed signal, high frequency and sensor devices.

According to Cohu, the new NY32 offered a maximum of five times increased device handling accuracy compared to its predecessor, which was particularly important for test and inspection of thin, fragile small packages. The company added that it integrated innovative hardware and software technologies like Field Bus on Module that allows enhanced autonomous operation and stability apart from the new Falcon self-tuning solution delivering enhanced yield.

The company's President and CEO, Luis Muller, said, "We completed successful qualifications of this new platform at large European and Japanese-based customers resulting in multi-unit orders received in the first quarter. The initial handlers were shipped in Q1 and we received customer acceptance in our fiscal Q2."

Cohu's VP and GM of Ismeca business unit, Ian von Fellenberg, said, "We are excited to make the new NY32 platform available to our customers, and to enable the next generation of thin and fragile package processing solutions in the industry."

The company indicated this platform was well suited for RF devices, small power management ICs, solid state lighting devices and several other ICs. The company added that these devices were generally used in mobile products, "Internet of Things" apps and increasingly in automotive infotainment systems.

Shares of the company traded 0.44 percent up on Tuesday.
