Verizon Completes 5G Radio Specifications, Pre-Commercial Trials In Full Steam

Verizon Communications Inc. VZ revealed the completion of its 5G radio specification. The company claimed it was the first American telecom carrier to do so. The company stated that the specification was the product of alliance within its 5G Technology Forum, a group that is working to identify parameters for 5G specifications in advance of future standards.

Verizon said that with 5G, the company said that the end users would enjoy wireless service delivering several gigabits per second throughputs, as well as, single-millisecond latencies.

The company disclosed that specification offered them the guidelines to test and validate crucial 5G technical components. The development of the specification enabled industry partners like chipset vendors, network vendors, and mobile operators to create interoperable solutions and contribute to pre-standard testing, as well as, fabrication.

The telecom service provider also reached pre-commercial 5G testing, which is currently in progress in several locations in New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Texas. The company indicated earlier this year the progress on field tests, examining the characteristics of 5G technology in real-world environments.

Verizon said it was fueling the 5G ecosystem with members of their 5G Technology Forum. That included Cisco, Ericsson, Intel, LG, Nokia, Samsung, and Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated.

VP of Network Technology Planning, Adam Koeppe, said, "The completion of the 5G radio specification is a key milestone toward the development of a complete 5G specification. The level of collaboration that we are seeing exceeds what we saw during 4G. This agile way of developing the specification and working with the ecosystem will enable us to get to market rapidly."
