ABC Sees Record Ratings As Cavaliers Win Historic Championship

Walt Disney Co DIS ABC's summer has been stellar so far thanks in large part to the NBA Finals and a rematch between the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers. On Sunday night, the best-of-seven game series wrapped up in nail-biting fashion and over 30 million people tuned in to see the finish.

As a result, ABC drew its biggest numbers ever for an NBA game with a total tally of 30.8 million total viewers and a 18-49 demo rating of 11.2. The last NBA Finals Game 7 aired in 2013 when James was with the Miami Heat and his team was battling the San Antonio Spurs. That particular game was watched by 26.2 million viewers, a 17 percent difference.

The Game 7 numbers currently give ABC the third most-watched telecast of 2016, behind the Super Bowl (111.9 million) and the Oscars (34.4 million), the latter of which also aired on the network.

During the game's final minutes, ABC reported a large increase as 44.5 million viewers tuned in, which hasn't happened for an NBA Finals (Championship Game) since 1998.
