MasterCard Fast-Tracking Chip Card Terminal Rollout

MasterCard Incorporated MA operates a terminal testing and certification process for merchants preparing to go live with new chip-card enabled terminals at their checkout stations.

The chip-card terminals have been popping up everywhere as more and more merchants adopt the new method of securing customer transactions.

On Monday, Mastercard announced a new testing and certification program aimed at speeding the adoption of the chip-card enabled point-of-sale terminals by merchants and resellers.

The EMV chip cards (named after their developers - Europay, MasterCard and Visa) customers have been getting transitioned to are designed to counterfeit credit card fraud and reduce chargeback costs for merchants.

Mastercard recently announced almost 70 percent of all its U.S.-issued cards are now chip cards, while chip-active merchant locations have increased to 1.4 million.
