CME Group's Average Daily Volume Grows 6% In May

CME Group Inc CME, revealed that its May monthly volume averaged 14.9 million contracts per day, representing 6 percent growth from May 2015. According to the company, May options volume averaged 2.8 million contracts per day, which was 10 percent higher than the preceding month, with electronic options averaging 1.6 million contracts per day thus recording 13 percent uptick over the same period last year. Its total open interest at the end of May advanced 23 percent to 113 million contracts. CME Group said that metals volume averaged 479,000 contracts per day in May indicating 42 percent YOY uptick. Similarly, its Grew Gold futures average daily volume grew 52 percent to 286,000 while Silver futures average daily volume was 27 percent higher at 57,000 contracts. The company indicated that Energy volume averaged 2.2 million contracts per day in May 2016, which was higher by 28 percent than the preceding year month. It also Achieved 42 percent growth in average daily volume across Crude Oil products, due to which WTI futures average daily volume was one million contracts, recording 51 percent uptick, while WTI options average daily volume grew 18 percent. As far as the Equity index volume was concerned, it averaged 2.6 million contracts per day in May 2016, indicating 23 percent increase from May 2015. On Wednesday, the stock closed 0.12 percent higher.
