Users Can Now Use Google Search In Chat Without Ever Leaving The Messenger

Messenger platforms can now use Alphabet Inc GOOG GOOGL's search engine without leaving the chat box, thanks to Google's new Gboard program.

Reporting on the innovation, TechCrunch offered an example where users can look up pictures and immediately send them to other users through Gboard without ever leaving the chat box. The popular blog added that Gboard "allows you to easily search for things like flight times, news articles, restaurant and business listings, weather and more right from your keyboard [...] and paste that information into you chat."

Gboard strategically allows Google to reach consumers before they have a chance to use a different search engine, further improving the company's ability to block out its competitors.

Shares of Google were trading down nearly half a percent Thursday afternoon.
