AT&T To Make Wireline Home Internet Service More Affordable

AT&T Inc. T revealed it was making wireline home Internet service more affordable in respect of low-income households. For that purpose, the company launched a new program called as Access meant to help bridge the digital divide.

The telecom service provider's VP of wired voice and broadband products, Cheryl Choy, said "We're making it easier for more people to connect to friends, family, their communities and the possibilities of the Internet. Access from AT&T is an affordable Internet option available to millions of Americans with limited budgets."

Similarly, EveryOneOne CEO, Chike Aguh, commented "At EveryoneOn, we believe that a home Internet connection is life-changing. From completing homework online to applying for a job to interacting with family and friends, a connection to the digital world is vital for all Americans. Access from AT&T, and other programs like it, will help more low-income Americans experience the opportunity that the Internet provides."

AT&T said the qualifying households would get the fastest of three speed tiers – 10Mbps, 5Mbps or 3Mbps –available at their address. The company added that the Internet speeds provided at 10Mbps and 5Mbps would cost $10 a month, and Internet speeds at 3Mbps would cost $5 a month. The company indicated it would waive installation and Internet equipment fees for participating households.

On Friday, the stock traded up by 0.37 percent.
