Ally Financial Inc. ALLY announced Tuesday, that it has signed an agreement to acquire digital wealth management company, TradeKing Group, Inc., for approximately $275 million. The deal is expected to close in Q3 of 2016. Ally Financial closed at $17.65 on Tuesday, down 3%. Hearing Judge in Staples, Office Depot Case has Told FTC to Take Two Days to Consider Its Position The Rumor:
Shares of Staples SPLS and Office Depot ODP got a boost when CTFN reported that the Judge in the merger case had told the FTC to take two days to consider its position. Earlier, Wall Street Journal reported that a lawyer for Staples, said the government had failed to prove its case against the planned merger with Office Depot and asked the judge to rule on the government's request without presenting a defense. Staples attorney Diane Sullivan said "we believe there is a fatal flaw" in the FTC's case. Staples closed at $10.88 on Tuesday, down 1.45%. Office Depot closed Ku6 Media Enters into Definitive Merger Agreement for Going Private Transaction for $1.08/ADS The Deal:
Ku6 Media Co., Ltd. KUTV announced Tuesday, that it had entered into a definitive Agreement and Plan of Merger with Shanda Investment Holdings Limited and Ku6 Acquisition Company Limited, under which Ku6 will be acquired for $1.08 per ADS. The deal is expected to close in the second half of 2016, Ku6 Media closed at $0.97 on Tuesday, up 12.5%. Report DoJ Could Sue to Block Halliburton/Baker Hughes Deal The Rumor:
The U.S. Justice Department will file a lawsuit as early as this week to prevent the Halliburton HAL-Baker Hughes BHI merger, according to a source as reported by multiple media outlets on Tuesday. Both parties have been in talks regarding assets sales to satisfy regulators and save the deal, announced in November 2014. Baker Hughes shareholders were to receive 1.12 Halliburton shares, plus $19.00 in cash for each share they own. Halliburton closed at $10.04 on Tuesday, up 11.5%. Pfizer Said to be Leaning Towards Abandoning Deal with Allergan The Rumor:
Pfizer Inc PFE is said to be considering abandoning its agreement to agreement to acquire Allergan Plc AGN following hearing of the U.S. Treasury Departments new measures to stop tax inversion deals, according to a source reported by Reuters on Tuesday. Pfizer would rather scrap the $160 billion deal than alter it, the source said. Pfizer stated in a filing: "We are conducting a review of the U.S. Department of Treasury's actions announced today. Prior to completing the review, we won't speculate on any potential impact." Allergan closed at $236.55 on Tuesday, down 14.77%. Pfizer closed at $31.36, up 2.08%.
