According to a report by DigiTimes, Microsoft Corporation MSFT shipped 2.5 million Surface tablet devices in the fourth quarter of 2015, bringing its total shipments for the year to 6 million units.
DigiTimes, citing "Taiwan-based supply chain makers," noted that Microsoft was expecting to ship just 4 million tablets. In addition, the company could see another 30 percent growth in Surface tablets in 2016.
DigiTimes' sources also said that Microsoft has been developing a new Surface model that could be unveiled in the second half of 2016 along with other new products.
Shares of Microsoft were trading lower by nearly 2 percent Wednesday morning.
