Shares of MeetMe Inc MEET, a location-based social network, gained more than 2 percent on Tuesday after the company announced it set a new daily record for the number of user-to-user chats.

MeetMe noted that on Monday more than 30 million chats were sent on a single day - marking the first time in the company's history it surpassed the 30 million milestone.

"We have had tremendous growth in the number of chats sent on MeetMe in the last year," said Geoff Cook, CEO of MeetMe in the company's press release. "Just over a year ago, we announced 20 million chats a day. Reaching this new milestone of 30 million user-to-user chats in a single-day is a testament to MeetMe's power to connect users around the world. We've never seen higher engagement on MeetMe and we expect this growth to continue as we grow both in the US and internationally."

The stock traded recently at $3.38, up 2.4 percent.
