Why Apple Won't Release A Set-Top TV At WWDC

Apple Inc. AAPL has been publicizing the Apple TV for years. However, the tech giant is not expected announce updates to its TV hardware at its Worldwide Developers Conference this week.

According to The New York Times, the product is just not ready to be demonstrated. JP Morgan's Rod Hall added that “a major setback for the Apple TV involved content.”

Gene Munster, analyst at Piper Jaffray, commented that content is a major delay for Apple. Munster adds that the company will still pursue in giving an update to Apple TV sometime in the near future, but not at the conference. He concludes that Apple will still “possibly” preview some of the content and software around the TV at the conference, and introduce a new hardware device some following months.

Apple is not only holding off on talks of the Apple TV hardware, but also an improved remote control, along with a developer's tool kit for making applications.

The tech giant is continuing to pursue its vision of the developed Apple TV.

Apple’s stock has been soaring, up nearly 13 percent in the past six months and 17 percent year-to-date.
