was reportedly matching the fares on at least some routes, although the company didn't announce a sale. http://aviationblog.dallasnews.com/2015/06/summers-almost-here-so-its-time-for-the-southwest-airlines-fall-fare-sale.html/ The scope of Southwest's current sale appears to be more limited than its previous similar promotions, according to USA Today. http://www.usatoday.com/story/todayinthesky/2015/06/02/southwest-fares-drop-below-100-round-trip-in-72-hour-sale/28366853/ Some of the carrier's shorter routes aren't on sale for the lowest $49 fares, the newspaper said. The sale, which ends Thursday, makes low fares available for travel on nonstop flights except Fridays and Sundays beginning Aug. 24 through Dec. 16, 2015. Blackout dates include Sept. 3-5, Sept. 7, and Nov. 20 through Dec. 1, 2015. Examples of flights for $49 include Las Vegas to Los Angeles and Boston to Washington, D.C., while a $99 ticket can be purchased, for example, for flights between Atlanta and New York. A $129 price-tag tier includes routes like Austin to Newark while $149 tier includes Nashville to Seattle. Seats are limited and other restrictions apply, the airline said.
