Apple Inc.
AAPL
continues to expand its iPhone Reuse and Recycle trade-in program launched in mid-2013. According to an article published by 9to5Mac, the tech behemoth will soon be introducing a new trade-in program aimed at luring non-Apple users to purchasing an iPhone. The idea is pretty simple: Apple will accept non-Apple smartphones, including devices that run on Google Inc.'s
GOOGGOOGL
Android, in exchange for gift cards to be used in the purchase of new iPhones. According to the article, "Apple will use a similar system to the one it uses to repurchase iPhones, whereby Apple Retail Store employees determine trade-in values for devices by considering their cosmetic and functional condition." Sources say the new program will be launched in a few weeks, after retail store employees are properly trained to determine the value of the trade-in phones, and to migrate address book contacts from the rival smartphones to the iPhones.
