GNC Holdings Rebounds On Independent Test Results

GNC Holdings Inc GNC continued to gain Wednesday after the company released results of independent tests that suggest its products are properly labeled.

New York State officials last month released tests that claimed to show products from GNC and others in the dietary supplements industry are adulterated and in some cases lack ingredients shown on labels.

GNC changed hands recently at $46.18, up 3.4 percent after closing down Tuesday off more than 8 percent at $44.83.

GNC's smaller competitor, Vitamin Shoppe Inc. VSI, gained more than 2 percent recently, changing hands at $41.22.

GNC said its tests confirm its products are "safe, pure, properly labeled and in full compliance with all regulatory requirements."

New York State Attorney General Eric Schneider on Tuesday announced a coalition of four state attorneys general that will expand on his examination of business practices within the $61 billion dietary supplements industry.

GNC said it is cooperating with Schneider's investigation.
