Canalys reported Tuesday that Apple Inc AAPL had taken the “top spot” in China’s smart phone market for the number of units shipped.

The report noted that Apple “has turned the tables” on Chinese smart phone vendors by gaining market share in their home country despite Apple charging “nearly double” for its handsets compared to local competitors.

“The company is finally riding the large screen and LTE trends in China, which have been vital to its success, along with a well-timed launch and a clampdown on grey exports of its products out of Hong Kong,” according to the report.

Apple outranked Xiaomi, Samsung and Huawei in Q4 for units shipped, largely due to the success of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.

The news came ahead of Apple reporting its Q1 earnings on Tuesday. Analysts had somewhat mixed views on what to expect from the company.

Heading into the earnings release the stock traded at $111.22 down 1.66 percent.
