Pentagon Awards Northrop Grumman $963.5 Million ICBM Contract

The Department of Defense announced seven separate defense contracts on Wednesday, worth $1.16 billion in total. Far and away the largest of these contracts went to Northrop Grumman Corporation NOC, whose single contract win accounted for 83 percent of funds awarded.

Northrop's award, a $963.5 million indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract, hires the defense contractor to perform ground subsystems support for the U.S. Air Force's intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM).

This contract will continue in force through January 31, 2020.

While a handful of privately-held firms received other sizeable contracts, only one other publicly traded firm received an award on Wednesday: Raytheon Company RTN.

Raytheon was awarded an $8.2 million contract modification exercising "Phase 1, option 1" of a research project under the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency's (DARPA) Retrodirective Arrays for Coherent Transmission (ReACT) electronic warfare program.

Raytheon's contract extends through July 2016.
