The Dow climbed 1.47% to 17,900.73, while the NASDAQ composite index rose 1.84% to 4,750.73. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index surged 1.26% to 2,053.78. The worst performing industries in the market today are: Photographic Equipment & Supplies: This industry fell 4.42% by 11:00 am ET. GoPro, Inc. GPRO shares dropped 4% in today's trading. Citigroup reiterated a Neutral rating and $94.00 price target on GoPro. Semiconductor- Memory Chips: This industry tumbled 4.26% by 11:00 am. The worst stock within the industry was SemiLEDs Corporation LEDS, which fell 12%. SemiLEDs is expected to announce FQ1 financial results on Wednesday, January 14, 2015. Metal Fabrication: This industry declined 1.98% by 11:00 am with Valmont Industries, Inc. VMI moving down 2.7%. Valmont lowered its 2014 earnings outlook. Copper: The industry dropped 1.92% by 11:00 am. The worst performer in this industry was Freeport-McMoRan Inc. FCX, which declined 3.3%. Freeport-McMoRan shares have dropped 36.13% over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has gained 10.30% in the same period.
