Ford Introduces New Vehicles Ahead Of Detroit's North American International Auto Show

Ford Motor Company F introduced new vehicles Monday ahead of the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

The company introduced an all-new F-150 Raptor as the “ultimate in off-road performance” according to a press release.

Ford noted that the truck was “forged from high-strength, military-grade, aluminum alloy that helps save more than 500 pounds of weight, Raptor’s exterior design is inspired by Ford’s performance heritage in off-road racing that includes Best in the Desert, Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series and the famous Baja 1000.”

A new Shelby GT350 Mustang was also introduced, which focused on performance-enhancing weight reductions. “Ford engineers delivered against aggressive targets for weight reduction on the Shelby GT350R. If a part did not make the car faster around a road course, it was considered for deletion.

“Items removed include air conditioning, the stereo system, rear seats, trunk floorboard and carpet, backup camera and emergency tire sealer and inflator. Exhaust resonators also have been removed for weight savings with the benefit of creating a sharper exhaust tone,” according to the Company.

Ford also introduced an all-new carbon fiber GT as a “technology showcase.” The GT “features rear-wheel drive, a mid-mounted engine, and a sleek, aerodynamic, two-door coupe body shell. It is propelled by the most powerful EcoBoost production engine ever – a next-generation twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 producing more than 600 horsepower.”

Ford closed Monday at $15.22, up 0.07 percent.
