General Motors Company GM issued a recall for 83,000 SUVs and trucks for faulty ignitions at the end of 2014.
According to The Detroit News, GM’s “nightmare began in February, when it recalled 2.6 million older cars for a bad ignition switch that could cause vehicles to stall and air bags to fail in a crash. The defect has been blamed for 42 deaths and 58 injuries and spawned a number of investigations, including a congressional inquiry.”
The ignition problem can cause a vehicle to lose engine, steering, and breaking power by switiching to "accessory mode". In such a mode, if the vehicle is in an accident the airbags may not deploy, posing additional risks to occupants.
General Motors Company recently traded at $34.45, down 1.32 percent.
