JCPenny News tweeted quoted company CEO Mike Ullman Friday:

The “strong start” Ullman mentioned was also echoed in comments from Brian Sozzi as he visited J.C. Penny stores in the New York area.

Sozzi reported that a J.C. Penny employee said that "It just feels busier," comparing this Black Friday to last year.
“And this employee could be on to something. The company intends to issue a statement about Black Friday sales before the weekend is over, a spokesman said, suggesting the department store retailer is doing better than expected this year,” according to Sozzi.

The report indicated that “J.C. Penney expects fourth-quarter same-store sales to increase by 2 percent to 4 percent, following a 2 percent gain last year.”

J.C. Penney Company Inc JCP recently traded at $8.04, up 3.74 percent.
