Shares of BlackBerry Ltd BBRY are trading higher Monday morning following news that CEO John Chen stated the potential for partnerships with Xiaomi and Lenovo Group to expand in China, the world's largest smartphone market.
In a Bloomberg interview from the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation CEO Summit, Chen noted the demand for security, encryption and privacy, which are the strengths of BlackBerry. He also talked about the opportunities in technology licensing, distribution or manufacturing.
Chen stated that the Asian smartphone market is huge, but also highly competitive. Deals take time, he went on to say, but he is definitely interested.
Shares of BlackBerry were up 2.56 percent at $10.80 in the pre-market session.
