Oculus, the virtual reality company recently acquired by Facebook (NASDAQ: FB), on Monday announced that it acquired RakNet, a startup game networking engine based in Costa Mesa, California.

According to the blog, Oculus has open-sourced RakNet under the same modified BSD license that Facebook has used for its open-source projects.

The blog noted that RakNet's key features include object replication, remote procedure calls, patching, secure connections, voice chat and real-time SQL logging; its technology has been licensed by companies such as Sony, Unity and Havok.
