US Stock Futures Edge Higher Ahead Of Consumer Price Index

US stock futures traded slightly higher in early pre-market trade, ahead of economic data. The Federal Open Market Committee will begin its two-day meeting today. The consumer price index and housing starts data for May will be released at 8:30 a.m. ET. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 11 points to 16,713.00, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index futures rose 0.80 points to 1,930.00. Futures for the Nasdaq 100 index gained 3.75 points to 3,776.25.
A Peek Into Global Markets
European markets were mostly higher today, with the Spanish Ibex Index rising 0.16%, STOXX Europe 600 Index gaining 0.06%. German DAX 30 index rose 0.12%, French CAC 40 Index surged 0.08% and London's FTSE 100 Index gained 0.03%. Annual rate of inflation in the UK fell to 1.5% in May, versus 1.8%. In Asian markets, Japan's Nikkei Stock Average rose 0.29%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index dropped 0.42%, China's Shanghai Composite Index tumbled 0.92% and India's BSE Sensex jumped 1.31%.
