On Monday, The Desk's Matthew Keys Reported that Twitter, Inc. is working on an edit feature for tweets.
Sources confirmed that this feature has been a priority for the company as Twitter looks to expand partnerships. The edit feature will only be available for a short amount of time to make "slight changes" to remove/ add a word and fix a typo. Keys noted that the edit will only be enabled once per tweet and will limit the how many characters can be inserted or deleted.
Twitter hopes that the restriction to the edit feature will enable users to correct misinformation without changing the overall purpose. Keys clarified, "In other words, Twitter doesn't want a user to post a news story, accumulate a large amount of re-tweets, and then change the tweet to display a promotion or advertisement."
This editorial algorithm is expected to be completed within a couple weeks to months.
Twitter closed at $56.61 on Monday.
