Shinola's 'Makers Monday' Boosting Awareness for the American-Made

Black Friday and Cyber Monday are what all holiday shoppers keep their eyes out for. Many U.S. companies, though, are hoping to sway shippers to think another way - American. Makers Monday will be 'celebrated' on December 2, in hopes of boosting awareness for shoppers to buy more American-made products. The campaign encourages consumers to buy from American companies whose products are made in the country. The movement's websites states, "It's not a purchase It's an investment. Buying American-made products creates jobs in America. If every American of voting age spends just $10 on Makers Monday, that adds up to 2.4 billion dollars. Not bad for a day's work." "At a time in the holidays where people are looking for discounts," Jennifer Guairno, vice president of Shinola's leather division, told Fox 2 News. "We think there's another thing that matters - and this is it." Well over 100 companies are registered for the campaign, including Analogue Interactive. Analogue representative and developer Christopher Taber likens it to Record Store Day, a small but noticeable movement to encourage consumers to be a little more unique for a day. "We go out of our way to produce everything in the U.S. and keep things on a local, personal level," Taber told Benzinga. "I love that our products are all hand-crafted and completely made in the U.S." Analogue Interactive is a maker of retro-gaming goods. It created and develop the Wooden Consolized Neo Geo MVS (multiple virtual storage). It's an arcade system modified and installed in a custom enclosure to play through a home-theater setup. The console is compatible with every single MVS game, region-free, on virtually all televisions. "I know just after scrolling the their list on the website, I've bookmarked several things I want to purchase from companies I've never seen before," Taber said.
