US Stock Futures Down; GM Earnings, Economic Data In Focus

US stock futures are lower this morning, ahead of earnings from General Motors Company (NYSE: GM) and economic data. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average tumbled 77 points to 15,423.00 and S&P 500 index futures fell 9.50 points to 1,674.30. Nasdaq 100 futures dropped 15.25 points to 3,032.75.

US stocks closed mostly lower on Wednesday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average falling 0.16% to 15,542.24, the S&P 500 index dropping 0.38% to 1,685.94 and the Nasdaq 100 index rising 0.01% to 3,579.60.

Data on durable goods orders for June and weekly jobless claims will be released at 8:30 a.m. ET. The Bloomberg Consumer Comfort Index will be released at 9:45 a.m. ET, while the EIA weekly report on natural gas stocks will be released at 10:30 a.m. ET. The Kansas City Fed manufacturing index for July will be released at 11:00 a.m. ET, while money supply data will be released at 4:30 p.m. ET.

Facebook (NASDAQ: FB) reported stronger-than-expected second-quarter results.

Visa (NYSE: V) posted a a profit in its fiscal third quarter and lifted its full-year outlook. The company's board also authorized a $1.5 billion share buyback program.

General Motors Company is projected to report its Q2 earnings at $0.75 per share on revenue of $38.37 billion. 3M Company (NYSE: MMM) is expected to report its Q2 earnings at $1.71 per share on revenue of $7.77 billion. The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW) is projected to report its Q2 earnings at $0.63 per share on revenue of $14.48 billion. Bristol-Myers Squibb Company (NYSE: BMY) is estimated to report its Q2 earnings at $0.44 per share on revenue of $4.05 billion.

The Hershey Company (NYSE: HSY) is expected to report its Q2 earnings at $0.71 per share on revenue of $1.51 billion. Expedia (NASDAQ: EXPE) is expected to post its Q2 earnings at $0.79 per share on revenue of $1.26 billion. Zynga (NASDAQ: ZNGA) is estimated to post a Q2 loss at $0.04 per share on revenue of $185.42 million. Starbucks (NASDAQ: SBUX) is estimated to post its Q3 earnings at $0.53 per share on revenue of $3.72 billion.

Southwest Airlines Co (NYSE: LUV) is expected to report its Q2 earnings at $0.38 per share on revenue of $4.66 billion. Harley-Davidson (NYSE: HOG) is estimated to report its Q2 earnings at $1.18 per share on revenue of $1.63 billion. Colgate-Palmolive Co (NYSE: CL) is projected to report its Q2 earnings at $0.70 per share on revenue of $4.39 billion. Lorillard (NYSE: LO) is expected to report its Q2 earnings at $0.80 per share on revenue of $1.28 billion.

European markets were lower today. The STOXX Europe 600 Index tumbled 0.82%, London's FTSE 100 index dropped 0.98%, French CAC 40 Index declined 0.81% and German DAX 30 index fell 1.19%.

Asian markets ended lower, with Japan's Nikkei Stock Average falling 1.14%, China's Shanghai Composite dropping 0.60% and Australia's ASX/S&P500 falling 0.07%. Hong Kong's Heng Seng Index declined 0.31% and India's Sensex tumbled 1.44%.
